With the start of a new term and school year, Bennington College welcomes its largest and most diverse class yet onto campus. This Fall term the College is welcoming 220 new students from 31 states and 26 different countries. Of those students 26% have international or dual citizenship, 21% are domestic students of color, and 20% are the first student in their family to attend college. These statistics bring us to consider and reflect on ourselves.

End of Term Collapsed

  At the end of this past term, Bennington College students experienced an abbreviated move-out period that came one day after classes officially ended. Coupled with the arrival of harsh winter weather, the shortened move-out period complicated end-of-term departures in some cases, and led to confusion or frustration in others. The majority of students were unaffected, however, by the shortened move out period, having finished their classes earlier in the week, and so moved out with relative ease. Nevertheless, the change in schedule requires reevaluation, and is another aspect of the ever-evolving form of Bennington College that will inevitably change again.

The Student Center: Before and After Aramark

The Student Center, home of “Grab-and-Go”, which almost any on-the-go student has resorted to during tight lunch breaks, has had quite a few notable changes. Employees, typically our friends and classmates, now must wear a uniform: a black t-shirt with burnt orange “Bennington College” lettering on the left breast.
